MAC lipstick review

I have to admit: I am not that big on makeup.
If I have to choose between books and makeup, I would definitely pick the former. But once in a while, I do get myself some "quality" makeup especially when I find my wallet still chubby after all the bills are paid for.
I did not buy my MAC makeup using my own money, though (heh, told you I am not that big a fan) I got gift certificates as one of the judges for an academic event. Since I basically got to spend for free, I got myself two MAC lipsticks and an eyeliner-- with the Rustan's Beauty Addict card as a bonus.

I am a fan of Maybelline lipsticks, and because MAC products are four times more expensive than those of Maybelline, I really expected more from MAC. I dare say I got disappointed.
First of, let me point out what I loved about MAC lipsticks:
- it is easy to apply and easy on the lips. I picked Taupe, a nude shade which matched well with my complexion. The lipstick did not look too fake on me and actually looked naturally pleasing
- it lasts longer than average lipsticks. I am not the type of person who collects different shade of lipsticks. I survive with just two shades and buy myself another when I am done with my supply. One Maybelline lipstick last me 4 months but the MAC stood with me for 5 months
- it still looks good even when my lips are dry. Most lipsticks, however, aggravate the crack on my lips once applied
Considering all the reasons above, below are the reasons MAC lipsticks turned out more disappointing than rewarding:
- MAC does not have that strawberry or cherry flavor that makeup beginners such as myself love. I could, however, put up with this since Maybelline lipsticks also do not carry this feature
- the lipstick easily comes off. I find my lipstick faded after drinking, after eating, and even when I am very careful of my lips, I still find the tint coming off after a few hours. Maybelline trumps MAC by longer hours on the lips
- the brand is expensive. One lipstick costs PHP1,050 each, while Maybelline lipstick is just PHP199 each
If I were to be asked whether or not to purchase MAC products again, my answer would be no. The high price is just not that worth it. But of course, it can be a whole different story when offered to me for free *wink wink*
